CEHURD pioneers the justiciability and realisation of the right to health by advancing social justice and human rights in health in Uganda and the East Africa region, with Africa-wide and global impact. It envisions a society where social justice and human rights in health systems are realised. CEHURD addresses the social injustices within the healthcare system, including health rights violations at all levels, to ensure that all people, especially the most vulnerable, enjoy the right to health without any form of discrimination, stigma and exclusion. Its main strategies and interventions include strategic litigation, legal and policy advocacy, capacity-building, action research and social movement building, primarily focusing on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and health systems strengthening.
CEHURD supports young or small organisations, including community-based organisations and networks, within the health rights and SRHR movement, which cannot receive funding for various reasons. These include the lack of established internal governance, financial and operational systems and controls and the capacity to comply with national regulatory requirements.
