WANEP enables and facilitates mechanisms for cooperation among civil society-based peacebuilding practitioners and organisations in West Africa. It promotes cooperative responses with state actors to address the root causes of violent conflicts, provides the structure through which these practitioners and institutions regularly exchange experiences and information, and promotes West Africa's social and cultural values as resources for peacebuilding.
WANEP strengthens organisations' capacity, supports financial and administrative management for organisations not registered in the host country, and assists with fund management.

Organisations must align with WANEP's mission and vision, operate as non-profit and credible entities, and have a clear project plan and budget.
