Mission

AMwA envisions a dignified and equitable feminist society for African women and girls in all their diversities. Its mission is to build feminist leadership and collective power to dismantle oppressive systems and advance social justice. AMwA strengthens the African Women’s Leadership Institute (AWLI), amplifies African women’s voices through advocacy and research, and enhances its capacity as a learning-driven organization. Its core focus areas are Women’s Political Leadership, Economic Justice and Climate Change, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, guided by four pillars: Feminist Leadership Development, Research and Documentation, Policy Influencing and Movement Building, and Arts and Creative Expression.

Driven by its mission to build feminist leadership and collective power to dismantle oppressive systems and advance social justice for women and girls, Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) is motivated to provide fiscal hosting services as a means of strengthening feminist movements. This initiative aims to support grassroots and emerging feminist organizations that may not have adequate legal and financial capacity to access and manage funding effectively. By offering administrative oversight, AMwA enhances financial accountability, ensures compliance with donor regulations, and increases funding opportunities for these organizations. Additionally, fiscal hosting fosters collaboration and solidarity among feminist movements, reinforcing AMwA’s objectives.

AMwA is a member of the Solidarity for African Women’s Rights (SoAWR), NGO CSW Africa, the Gender Is My Agenda Campaign and Tax Justice Network Africa
