DRDO contributes to improving the livelihood and self-sufficiency of the poor and marginalised population in the urban and rural areas of Eastern Ethiopia. It works with vulnerable community groups by strengthening community-based institutions, creating institutional linkages, and enhancing their capacities to overcome social and economic problems. This leads communities to become owners of development programmes and processes.

By offering fiscal hosting services, it aims to streamline administrative processes, enhance financial management and enable its partners to focus on their core missions. DRDO's objectives include fostering sustainable development, increasing organisational efficiency, and ensuring transparency and accountability when using funds. It strives to create a robust ecosystem that amplifies the impact of community-driven projects and contributes to the region's overall progress.

Organisations must align with DRDO's mission and values, focus on community development and social impact in Ethiopia and be non-profit entities with transparent governance structures and sound financial practices. Preference is given to initiatives focused on underserved communities and sustainable development. Organisations with political or for-profit agendas or those that do not adhere to ethical standards and regulatory compliance are not eligible.
